This privacy policy governs your use of the Snapshot Study Application (“Application”) for iOS that was created by Parabon NanoLabs, Inc. (“Parabon”). The Application is intended to facilitate data collection for The SNAPSHOT DNA Phenotypic Trait and Ancestry Study (“Study”). As part of this study, researchers at Parabon are collecting information about appearance (“phenotypic traits”), information about biogeographic ancestry, DNA samples, and any genetic information derivable therefrom to be used for the following aims:
Aim 1: Develop and optimize algorithms to accurately predict phenotypic traits and ancestry from genetic information. These algorithms will allow inferences to be made about a person who is the source of an unidentified DNA sample for law enforcement purposes. They may also find use in medical applications.
Aim 2: Discover answers to any other forensic, bioinformatics, or other research questions, not currently contemplated under Aim 1, that may become of interest to Parabon study investigators and its authorized collaborators and sponsors in the future.
The Application obtains the user information you provide when you download and register the Application and data collected when you use the application’s phenotype and ancestry collection features. The application will also ask you some qualifying questions to determine your eligibility for the study and enable you to track where you are in the study process.
When you register to use the Application, you provide your name, personal email address, user name, password and other registration information (“registration information”). This information is used to facilitate your enrollment and participation in the Study. Phenotype and ancestry information collected by this application includes a survey about your phenotypic traits and biogeographic ancestry and self-collected photos and video scans (primarily of your face and head). To use the phenotype collection features of this application, you will need to enroll in the Study by completing a CONSENT FORM TO ACT AS A SUBJECT IN A RESEARCH STUDY (“Study Agreement”). The Study Agreement presented by this Application gives you information about the research we will be conducting. Whether or not you participate is up to you. You can choose not to take part. You can agree to take part and later change your mind. The Study Agreement details Parabon’s obligations related to study information.
We may use the registration information you provided us to contact you from time to time to provide you with important information, required notices and marketing promotions.
In addition, the Application may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device’s unique device ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser(s) you use, and information about the way you use the Application.
This Application does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile device.
If you do not enroll in the study, we will only share your information with third parties in the ways that are described in this privacy statement. If you enroll in the study, we will only share information in ways that are described within the Study Agreement.
We may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information: as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process; when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request; with our trusted service providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information we disclose to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement.
If Parabon is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our Web site of any change in ownership or uses of this information, as well as any choices you may have regarding this information.
You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network. You can also request your registration to be cancelled via email, at snapshot-research@parabon.com.
If you enroll in the study, we will retain your data as described within the Study Agreement. If you do not enroll in the study, we will retain your data for up to 24 months after which it will be deleted.
We do not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 18. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at snapshot-research@parabon.com. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.
We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. Please be aware that, although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy here and informing you via email or text message. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.
By using the Application, you are consenting to our processing of your information as set forth in the Study Agreement. If you elect to not consent to the Study Agreement, you consent to the processing of your information as described in this privacy policy.
